“When facts are treated as if they were opinions, when there is no universal standard by which to determine truth in law, in science, in scholarship, or in the reporting of events of the day, the world becomes a place where lies become true, where people can believe what they want to believe, where there is no possibility of reaching any conclusion not predetermined by those who interpret the official, divinely inspired text.”
Chris Hedges, Journalist, Author, and Presbyterian Minister
When we blindly adopt a religion, a political system, a literary dogma, we become automatons. We cease to grow.
Anais Nin
A Universe
Inscrutable
all we can do
is guess
turn every No
it throws at us
into a charmed
Yes
*
So much we can
never know
wherefore
we live and die
though charlatans
dupe us daily with
myths
of earth and sky
*
Beware they who
claim to know
the ways of
some lucent god
with holy books
and gobbledygook
they lisp but
a puerile fraud
*
No one of us
has ever known
nor will we
ever know
yet these charmers
wax profound
spiff up stories
as they go
*
There is a pathway
in your heart
a key within your
mind
follow those
and who knows
what clues
that you might find?
*
Science has yet
much work to do
trust it to
lead us on
question
question
all shibboleths
from dusk
to daily dawn
in interim
tell our
motley pastors
to be quiet
and be gone
