Caesura
By Rajani Kanth
Come, Let us
Fast
The Holy Time’s
before us:
And this
Moment
May not last –
Come, Let us
Fast
*
All the
Portents
Warn us
No Returning
To what is
Past –
*
The Feast
Was Exorbitant:
Cakes and Ale
lie in the
Waters cast –
So , come,
let us fast
*
The Antic
Gods do
rave and fume
Their Patience
will not last
*
Music’s
gone
cacophonous:
Dancers,
giddy, spin
too fast –
Night moon’s
hid
in storm clouds
dark
Party’s over,
Done ,
and Past
It’s Time:
To Pray,
and Fast
*
We
frittered
The Good
Earth’s
Bounty –
a Largesse,
Free,
and Vast
Oblivious,,
In Euphoria
That Nature –
She Bats
Last –
*
So, Expiating
Wantonness
In Exculpating
Piety –
Come, Let us
Fast
