Mourning Thanksgiving?

(For my daughters)
They run
in somnolent soliloquy

His story. her story
their story. our story

this story , that story

A few of them sweet
some plain gory

Winners kneel to thank
victims walk the plank
how to reconcile?
memes warm and vile?

I know not The Way
this blessed/damned day.

Yet is Truth the Whole
the robbed, and they who stole
some will celebrate
others , curse their fate

Let us be amnesiacs?
willing gulls and hacks
scrub the wicked past
and hope that it will last

Let it be forgot
who did which to what
and toward that simple end
Embrace the Enemy , as Friend

On this Goodly, Grateful, Day
on this Mournful, Grieving, Day*

Reflect, in dour Philanthropy
on what can still be made to be
in spite of history?

It is how in time
Virtue teaches Vice
in wilful abnegation
in hope it will suffice

Yet is it a hope
it’s how the wounded cope
albeit in dun despair
at the Wantonly Unfair
