Passages
(for Jim Ryan)*
We come and go –
life trundles on:
why must it be so?
The good the bad
the unspeakable
all are swept in tow
*
What the logos
where the reason(s)
conjuring trick
change of season(s)
Perfidious Nature
mocks our treason(s)?
*
For all our
vapid turpitude
we are yet withal
insanely good
*
In face of
cruelty
of Fate
We lisp
parched praise
and propitiate
Devoid rancor,
rue, or hate
In Design
so stark perverse
we’re the wonder
of the universe
*who lost his mother at 91
