The Insentient

Grew up
dreaming
meek and mild

Not for moi
the venture
wild

Something
of a delphic
child

*

In that world
of humble
lays

Universe of
tepid
ways

Ensconced
was I
in  pastel
haze

*

Then  was
I become
aware

Imminent  war
nuclear  scare

Lost all too
quick
my savoir faire

If this was
fruit of
“progress”

Redress was
called for
there?

*

My nano  world
would  soon
collapse

All illusions
quickly
lapse

Old terrors
yet again
relapse

*

Whence did Nature
let us
know

Time it was
for us To
Go

My dreams came
dyed in
indigo

*

Can come
as no
surprise

When we
build empires
Nature dies

Smokey can’t
stop
planet fires

*

We have no need
of taj mahals
skyscrapers
or gilded halls
electric cars
or  shiny malls

May be too late
to  salvage
fate

Or even gods
to
propitiate

All we can do
is wish
and  wait

*

Reprieve may
come
prevenient?

Nature
may
be lenient ?

Pitying us
as
Insentient
