Tristesse ( A Love Song)

(for All who have felt the tender passion)

My first, and lonely heart is you
red, but swiftly changing hue
beating, almost holding still
a quaking hart upon a hill
breaking, but yet far from gone
like darkling dusk before the dawn
sleeping now, within the shade
that your own passing shadow made

It wilts, it will, within the hour
ensconced within the jaded bower
it burns, it yearns, and still it may
happen perchance upon your way
before its leaving time again
in a world that’s ever on the wane

Time and tide return to find
the ores that deepest love has mined
and jewelled orbs in sweet surmise
speak of treasures within the eyes
speckled emeralds sparkling green
and magic casements all unseen
my darkest love, my deepest hue
cleave, my lonely heart, to you

Before its leaving time again
and anguish tempests fall in rain
lost beneath that silent shade
that your own leaving shadow made
I am leaned upon the folding flower
in vigil for your waking hour
My first, and lonely, heart is you
once red, but now in wistful blue
